Please Hold While I Transfer You To.....Anyone But Me

A caller today said, "I have a general question that is quite specific...." I just didn't have the patience and immediately transfered her to the records clerk. Does that make me an ass, since that poor lady is overworked/underpaid. Yeah, but I'd do it again in a heart beat! Mwoooha ha ha ha!!!!!! (Evil laughter)

No! It makes you practical!
"This isn't an emergency, but..." or "I don't know if I have an emergency, but..." Those get put on hold immediately.

Careful how quick You put these call's on hold or transfer to someone else. I have found that some of, (not all) elderly people start off a 9-1-1 call with " I'm not sure it's an emergency but" and you find out that His/Her spouse is in serious need of EMS intervention. Take an extra 10 seconds to find out. It could save someones life along with you're butt. There's nothing like trying to explain to the boss,,,or a jury why you did'nt question the caller further.

dear curmudgeon57 i actually accidnetally picked up a records line, listened to the rps entire story first, and then transfered her to records since I was the only dispatcher on duty, but that just wouldn't have been as funny of a post, ya know?

My favorite line when pissed off and fed up is:

"Are you bleeding?" NO?
"Are you on fire?" NO?
"Stay on the line for the Sheriff's Department"!

I gotta interject that I'm just joking here! Making' a funny. (Curmudgeon57 is my Supervisor).

Very true curmudgeon57. Gut instincts and good training have to kick in too.
